Terms and Conditions.
1. About these terms
By creating an account, buying a course, or using this website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the site or buy a course.
Coded Trades is based in British Columbia, Canada. In these terms, "Coded Trades", "we", "us" and "our" mean Coded Trades. "You" means the person using the site or taking the course.
These terms cover:
• the websites at codedtrades.ca and plumbingredseal.ca (the "Site")
• our online courses, study notes, question banks, videos, diagrams and downloads (the "Course" or "Content")
• any purchase you make from us
2. Eligibility and your account
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher, to create an account or buy a course.
When you create an account:
• Give us accurate information and keep it up to date.
• Keep your login details private. You are responsible for anything done under your account.
• One account is for one person. Accounts cannot be shared, sold or transferred.
• Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed your account.
Our courses are hosted on Thinkific. By using the course platform you also agree to Thinkific's own terms and privacy policy.
3. Prices and payment
All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD) unless shown otherwise. Applicable taxes (GST, PST or HST) are added at checkout where required.
Payment
• One-time payment: the full price, paid at checkout.
• For all purchases made after October 1, 2026, your account will be valid for 6 months.
• Payments are processed by Thinkific and its payment partners. We do not see or store your full card details.
We may change our prices at any time. A price change does not affect a course you have already paid for.
4. Refunds
All sales are final. Because the Course is digital content that you can access in full right after purchase, we do not offer refunds, credits or exchanges once your purchase is complete, except where the law requires it.
If a payment fails, is charged twice or is otherwise processed in error, contact us and we will correct it.
We do not refund based on exam results. Passing the Red Seal exam depends on your own study, experience and exam-day performance.
5. Course access and your license
When you buy a course, you get 6 months of access from your purchase date.
Courtesy extension if you're not ready. If your 6 months run out and you have not yet sat the exam, email us and we will give you a courtesy extension of 3 more months from your expiry date, at no cost. This is a one-time extension per purchase.
Free renewal if you don't pass. If you sit the Red Seal plumbing exam during your access period and do not pass, we will renew your access for another 6 months at no cost. To claim it, email us within 60 days of your exam date with proof of your attempt (for example, your results letter) showing your name and the exam date. One free renewal per purchase. The renewal starts on the day we approve it.
Your purchase gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Content for your own exam study. You may:
• view the Content on your own devices
• download or print materials marked as downloadable, for your own use
You may not:
• share your login or let anyone else use your account
• copy, resell, repost, upload or distribute any Content, including screenshots of questions
• use the Content to run your own course, tutoring business or class without our written permission
• scrape, record or bulk-download the Content
• use the Content to train, fine-tune or test any artificial intelligence model or tool
• use the Content to build a competing course, question bank or study product
We may update, add to or change the Content over time, for example when the code changes. We will not remove core material from a course you have paid for during your access period, unless we need to for legal or accuracy reasons.
6. Intellectual property
All Content, including study notes, practice questions, explanations, diagrams, videos, the Coded Trades name and logo, and the design of the Site, belongs to Coded Trades or is used with permission. It is protected by Canadian and international copyright and trademark law.
Code and standards references. Our Content refers to the National Plumbing Code of Canada 2020 (NPC 2020), CSA standards and other published codes. Those codes belong to their publishers, including the National Research Council of Canada and CSA Group. Our Content is an independent study guide. It does not replace the official code books, and you should use the current edition adopted in your province or territory.
Your feedback. If you send us suggestions or corrections, we may use them to improve the Content without owing you anything.
7. Exam results and non-affiliation
No guaranteed results. We work hard to make the study guide accurate and useful, but we cannot promise you will pass the Red Seal exam or any other exam. Your result depends on your own study, trade experience and performance on the day.
Study use only. The Content is for exam preparation. It is not a substitute for the code books, manufacturer instructions, your local authority's requirements or professional judgment on the job. Always check the code edition and local amendments that apply where you work before doing any installation.
Not affiliated. Coded Trades provides independent study notes for exam preparation. "Red Seal" is an official mark of the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA); Coded Trades is not affiliated with or endorsed by the CCDA or the Red Seal Program. We are also not affiliated with SkilledTradesBC or any other provincial or territorial apprenticeship authority.
Our practice questions are written by us to reflect the published exam blueprint. They are not real exam questions.
8. Acceptable use and ending access
When using the Site or Course, you agree not to:
• break any law, or help anyone else do so
• post anything abusive, hateful, harassing or misleading in comments or community areas
• try to hack, overload or get around the Site's security or access controls
• use bots, scrapers or AI tools to copy or extract the Content
We may suspend or close your account, without a refund, if you break these terms, especially by sharing your account or copying the Content. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first.
You can close your account at any time by emailing us. Closing your account does not entitle you to a refund.
When your access ends or your account is closed, we may keep your account record and purchase history so we can restore your access if you come back, keep our records straight, and meet legal requirements. Our Privacy Policy explains how long we keep information.
If we ever stop offering a course during your paid access period for reasons within our control, we will give you reasonable notice and either offer access to a replacement or a prorated refund.
9. Disclaimers and limits of liability
The Site and Content are provided "as is" and "as available". We do our best to keep them accurate, current and running, but we do not promise they will be error-free or available at all times. Codes and exam content change, and there may be a delay before our Content is updated.
To the fullest extent the law allows:
• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including lost income, lost job opportunities or exam fees.
• We are not liable for any loss, damage or injury from work you carry out based on the Content. You are responsible for following the code and local requirements on every job.
• Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Course in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the BC Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act or other consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded.
You agree to cover us for any claims or costs that arise because you broke these terms, for example by sharing or reselling the Content.
10. Group, school and employer use
Prices on the Site are for one person. If a school, training provider, union, employer or other organization wants to give the Course to a group, contact us about a group license. A group license needs a written agreement with us that sets out the number of seats, the price and the access period. Without one, an organization may not buy one account and share it, or use the Content in its own classes.
11. Third-party services and links
We use outside services to run the Site and Course, including Thinkific for course hosting, payment processors, video hosting and email tools. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they run.
The Site may also link to other websites, such as code publishers or apprenticeship authorities. We do not control those sites, and linking to them does not mean we endorse them.
12. Emails and communications
When you buy a course or create an account, we may email you about your purchase, your access period, and any changes to the Course or these terms. You cannot opt out of these while you have an account.
We may also send you study tips, updates and offers. You can unsubscribe from those at any time using the link in the email. We follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
13. Reviews and testimonials
If you send us a review, testimonial or exam result, or post one on the Site or our social media, you give us permission to use it in our marketing, along with your first name and province. We will not use your full name or photo without asking you first.
Tell us if you want a review taken down and we will remove it within a reasonable time. Please keep reviews honest. We do not pay for reviews, and we will not publish claims we cannot back up.
14. Promotions and discount codes
From time to time we may offer discount codes, bundles or limited-time prices. Each offer has its own conditions, such as an end date or a limit of one per person. Codes cannot be combined unless we say so, have no cash value, and cannot be applied to a purchase you have already made. We may withdraw an offer at any time, but that will not affect a purchase already completed.
15. Privacy
We collect and use your personal information as set out in our Privacy Policy, in line with BC's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada's federal privacy law (PIPEDA) where it applies. We do not sell your personal information.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the new version on the Site with a new "last updated" date, and email you about any major change. The terms in place when you bought a course apply to that purchase.
17. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be handled by the courts of British Columbia, unless consumer law in your province gives you the right to bring it where you live.
If you have a problem, please contact us first. Most issues can be sorted out with an email, and we will try to resolve any complaint within 10 business days.
18. General
• Whole agreement. These terms, along with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Site and Course.
• If part of this fails. If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
• Agreeing online. Ticking the box at checkout or clicking "buy" is the same as signing these terms. We keep a record of the version you agreed to.
• Events outside our control. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by things outside our reasonable control, such as internet or hosting outages, strikes or natural disasters.
• Transfer. You cannot transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours to a business that takes over Coded Trades, and we will tell you if that happens.
• Language. These terms are written in English. If we provide a translation and there is a difference, the English version applies.
• After your access ends. The sections on intellectual property, disclaimers, limits of liability and governing law continue to apply after your access ends.
• Time limit for claims. Any claim relating to these terms, the Site or the Course must be started within one year of when it arose.
