Coded Trades Website Terms of Use

Ownership of Site; Agreement to Terms of Use

The Coded Trades websites, course platform and study content (the “Site”) are run by the business named in our Terms and Conditions. In these terms, “Coded Trades”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean that business, and “you” means anyone using the Site. The Site includes codedtrades.ca, plumbingredseal.ca and codedtradesquiz.ca, plus any other website, course page, quiz or tool we run under the Coded Trades name.

By using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site. As long as you follow these terms, you have a personal, limited right to use the Site, which you can’t transfer to anyone else.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If the change is significant, we’ll also let current students know by email. If you keep using the Site after an update, you’re accepting the new terms.

We can update, change, pause or remove any part of the Site at any time, and we can limit or restrict access to features or parts of the Site.

Content

Everything on the Site is owned or controlled by us, or licensed to us. That includes all text, practice questions, answers, explanations, lessons, diagrams, illustrations, photographs, videos, sounds, quizzes, page design, layout, look and feel, logos, trademarks and computer code (together, “Content”). Content is protected by Canadian and international copyright and trademark law.

Using the Site doesn’t give you ownership of any Content. If you buy a course, you get a personal licence to use its Content for your own study, as set out in our Terms and Conditions. Unless these terms or the Terms and Conditions allow it, you can’t copy, share, publish or distribute any Content without our written permission.

The Coded Trades name and logo are our trademarks. Don’t use them without our written permission.

Red Seal; Code References

Coded Trades is an independent study resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by any government or apprenticeship body. That includes the Red Seal Program, the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA), the Government of Canada and SkilledTradesBC.

We use the Red Seal name only to describe the exam our course helps you prepare for. Our practice questions are written by us to match the topics and style of the Red Seal exam. They are not real exam questions.

We refer to the National Plumbing Code of Canada and other codes and standards. Those documents belong to their publishers, such as the National Research Council of Canada. Our material is a study aid, not a substitute for the official codes.

Your Use of the Site

Our courses are priced to be affordable, and that only works if each course is used by the person who bought it. When you use the Site, you agree not to:

  • Share our questions, answers, explanations, lessons, diagrams, videos or files with anyone, including in study groups, group chats, forums or social media
  • Copy, screenshot, record, download, print, sell or republish our Content, unless the Site gives you a download or print option for your own study (writing your own notes is fine)
  • Get around the protections on our Content, such as opening quizzes outside the course or grabbing files we haven’t made downloadable
  • Use deep links or any other method to reach course pages, lessons, quizzes or files without going through your own account
  • Embed, frame or mirror any part of the Site, including our quizzes, on another website, app or platform
  • Use bots, scrapers or AI tools to copy or collect our Content, or use our Content to build or train AI models, apps or other study products
  • Use our Content for teaching, training or any commercial purpose, including loading it into a school, college, union or training provider’s course, learning platform or classroom, without a written licence from us
  • Hack or interfere with the Site, or try to get into any part of it you don’t have access to
  • Probe, scan or test the Site for weaknesses, or break or get around any security or login measures
  • Send so many requests, or put such a heavy load on the Site, that it slows down or stops working for others
  • Look up, trace or try to collect information about other users
  • Fake or hide where your traffic or messages come from
  • Upload viruses or other harmful code
  • Pretend to be someone else, or use the Site for anything illegal, abusive or misleading
  • Pretend to be Coded Trades, including by sending emails or messages, or running websites or social media accounts, that look like they come from us

Violation of These Terms of Use

If you break these terms, we can suspend or close your account and end your access to any course, without a refund. We may also take legal action to protect our Content.

If we believe you’ve used the Site for anything illegal, or to harm us or anyone else, we may share information about you with police, courts or other authorities, as the law allows.

Accounts, Passwords and Security

  • If you’re under the age of majority where you live (19 in British Columbia), you need a parent or guardian’s permission to use the Site.
  • Each account is for one person only. Don’t share your login or let anyone else use your account.
  • Keep your login details private. You’re responsible for anything done under your account.
  • If you think someone else has got into your account, email us right away at [email protected].

Purchases; Other Terms and Conditions

Our other policies also apply when you use the Site or buy a course, and they form part of your agreement with us:

  • Terms and Conditions (our Legal page): buying a course, course access, your licence to use the course, and the “didn’t pass” renewal
  • Refund Policy: refunds and cancellations
  • Privacy Policy: what personal information we collect and how we use it

If these Terms of Use conflict with the Terms and Conditions or the Refund Policy, those documents win on anything to do with purchases, course access and refunds.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site and how we use and protect it. By using the Site, you agree that we can use your information as the Privacy Policy describes. No website is completely secure, so we can’t promise that information you send through the Site won’t be intercepted or seen by others.

Feedback

If you send us feedback, ideas or corrections, we can use them to improve Coded Trades without paying or crediting you, unless we’ve agreed otherwise in writing.

The Site may link to independent websites that other people run. We add these links only for your convenience. We don’t control those sites, so we’re not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices, and a link doesn’t mean we endorse them. Use your own judgment when you visit them.

You’re welcome to link to our homepage, as long as the link is fair and doesn’t suggest we endorse you or are connected with you. Don’t link directly to course pages, lessons, quizzes or files. We can ask you to remove a link to the Site at any time.

Disclaimers

Our Content is for exam preparation. It isn’t professional, engineering or legal advice, and it doesn’t replace proper training, supervision or the codes that apply where you work.

  • Codes change, and they differ between provinces, territories and local authorities. Always check the code in force where you’re working before you do any work.
  • Plumbing and gas work can be dangerous. Only do work you’re trained, qualified and certified to do.
  • We work hard to keep our Content accurate and up to date, but we can’t promise it’s always complete, current or error-free. If you spot a mistake, tell us at [email protected].
  • We can’t promise you’ll pass the exam. Your result depends on your own study, your experience and the exam itself.

We don’t promise the Site will always be available or free of errors. Problems with our hosting or course platform providers can sometimes cause downtime. We also can’t promise that files you download from the Site are free of viruses or other harmful code.

To the extent the law allows, the Site and everything on it are provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no other promises about the Site or its Content. That includes promises that it will meet your needs or be accurate, complete or uninterrupted.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent the law allows:

  • Coded Trades, its owners and anyone who works with us won’t be responsible for indirect or consequential losses from your use of the Site. That includes lost income, lost opportunities, exam fees, or costs from relying on our Content for real work.
  • If we’re found responsible for a loss, the most we’ll owe is what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you haven’t paid us anything, the limit is $100 CAD.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be waived.

Indemnity

If you break these terms or the law and it leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs. That includes legal fees.

Void Where Prohibited

The Site is designed for people preparing for the Red Seal exam in Canada. If you use it from outside Canada, it’s up to you to follow the laws where you are. If any part of these terms isn’t allowed where you live, that part doesn’t apply to you.

Governing Law; Dispute Resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute goes to the courts of British Columbia. If consumer protection law lets you bring it where you live, you can do that instead.

Miscellaneous

  • If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
  • If we don’t enforce a rule right away, we can still enforce it later.
  • We may transfer these terms and our rights under them to another business, for example if Coded Trades is sold or reorganized. You can’t transfer yours without our written permission.
  • These terms, together with the policies listed under Purchases; Other Terms and Conditions, are the whole agreement between you and us about using the Site.
